The Fragrant Rose List

Celestial

(Alba, 1810) – clear pink. I first smelled this rose when I was in my early teens and I still remember the fragrance. It was unbelievable and unlike that of any other rose - intensely strong, achingly sweet and piercing. The extremely tall, gracefully arching shrub was beautiful in its own right. Not a speck of black spot and the gray-green foliage had a silvery cast that looked otherworldly in the dabbled shade conditions in which it was growing. Like all Albas, Celestial is shade tolerant and winter hardy to zone 4. Once blooming.
