Zepherine Drouhin
(Climbing Bourbon, 1868) – cerise. ZeffyRose on the Rose Forum is responsible for this one. She posts the most amazing
images of her Zephirine Drouhin (Zeffy I’m ready for more!) which literally covers itself with blooms in the spring. Spreaking
of the blooms they are ravishingly beautiful. Form is high centered like a Hybrid Tea. Color is this unusual luminous deep
cool pink (cerise). The fragrance is just as assertive as the color, being very strong and wafting great distances on the breeze.
Zephirine Drouhin is shade tolerant too. Sadly her repeat bloom isn’t as good as some climbers but placing her in full sun will
help compensate for this weakness. She also needs spraying with fungicides to keep mildew and black spot at bay. The good
news is that she isn’t as prone to these diseases as Hybrid Teas are so you can get by with infrequent spraying. Another plus
is the practically thornless canes. Winter hardy to zone 5.
